Ok, not a rat, but it sounds like it. LOL

My belt jumped off.

I replaced the tensioner. It was cracked, so yeah it actually needed it.

Didn't replace the belt, because the belt has less than 10k miles on it.

With the tensioner replaced, new idler pulley, etc... I am now hearing a squeak. Thought I had a rat at first. You'll know why when you hear it.

It is not a constant squeak. And it does not squeak consistent with turns of the belt or engine. Squeaks once for every several spins of the belt. Sounds like it may be at the bottom of the engine.

Wondering what this might be. Also wondering if it is the reason the belt jumped in the first place.

Anyone else experience this?

Its cold, it's wet, and it's muddy. Not likely I am going to be crawling underneath with a piece of tubing in my ear to pinpoint it, any time soon. LOL

Also, down toward the end of the video, I tried to hold the camera steady so that you could see that every time the squeak is heard, the belt tweaks backward toward the engine. Tweaks by maybe a 32nd of an inch. You can see it best on the top of the tensioner pulley, if you hold your eye, (or the camera), steady enough.

You can see a dark color streak in the belt also that follows the noise. If everything is lined up correctly, replace the belt.

Thank you. I didn't see that, for some reason.

If it bugs you a lot, you could try Sil-Glyde in the short term. A buddy of mine has a truck with mismatched pulleys, so the belt bumps forward and backward when it goes around and makes a similar chirp sound. We still put sil-glyde on it once a week. It gets worse in the wet season because the water moves the sil-glyde off the belt.

If replacing the belt doesn't fix it I'd look into how stuff is aligned in there.

Happy Tinkering, and I hope you get rid of those rats!

I have also had 'rats' the entire 12 years I've had mine!

I have replaced almost everything over the years. But I wonder if I also have an open spring style?
