Quick question about racor water filter:
I have an 86 6.9, recently new to me. It has a racor 220 filter unit currently running a r24s 2 micron element. The fuel then goes to the stock fuel filter and onto the ip
Question is, what micron size should I run in the racor 220? Does it make any sense to have fuel go through a 2 micron and then onto the stock 6 micron? How often to replace the racor filter?
Thanks...

Well from what you posted...No reason to ever change the stock 6 micron filter because its getting 2 micron filtered fuel. Only water in the fuel will cause the 6 micron filter to require changing. Be cautious about running 2 filters. A few restriction can end up causing a fuel starvation and a drop in engine power. I personally would on run the 2 micron filter.

In any filtration system, you always run the finer one last.

Right, that's what I assumed. Not sure why the previous owner set it up this way...

I'm now considering a 10 micron racor, installing and electric fuel pump, and maintaining my stock fuel filter.

Any issue with putting a pump inbetween the two filters?

No issue at all, the first filter will work as a prefilter for the pump as well
