Q: Turbo Rebuild: Replace Backplate Required?

The backplate: Must I replace it? I am rebuilding my factory TC4305 Garrett turbo. I bought and read the Smothers "Turbo Rebuild Guide and Shop Manual - Garrett T3 - T04B - T04E" and have have this question:

The guide emphatically states that the backplate must not be checked for wear, it must always be replaced.

Do the experts on this forum agree? If so, would someone be willing to share a part number and /or source?

If the backing plate has been damaged by the wheel in any way you’ll need to replace it. You will be able to get a replacement from Garrett, but usually they are fine to reuse.
