So I was just curious if anyone else here has rebuilt their own turbo? I realize they should be balanced and tested but I’m just curious if anyone has done it at hole and ran the truck for years after?

I had a 6.0 that had a leaking oil seal and I pulled it apart and replaced everything that came in the Garrett kit. I then plowed for 4 months with that truck and it ran just fine and then I sold it. As far as I know it all held up just fine.

So anyone else here dig in to one? Or does everyone send it to Russ repair? I think the rebuild kit cost me around $120 and it was done in an evening. That’s a big savings and the fun knowing I did it my self.

I’ve done 2 and they’re both still working. 1 for 7 years and 1 for 4 years.

I rebuilt mine with a standard T3/T4 kit while my shaft and wheels were sent out for balancing. Kept me busy with some of the exhaust side bolts needing to be drilled and helicoiled.

If you decide not to balance, make sure to paint pen the hell out of your wheel's alignment so it goes back together correctly.
