Properly Tinting windows

Could someone go through how to properly tint your windows, DIY obviously. I can buy the film from NAPA, but I know lots of people that do it where it comes out looking like crap. I want them to look nice and clear and last for a couple years. I think we're legally allowed 30% here, which is pretty dark. Trying to keep the truck as cool as possible during these hot days.

clean, clean, clean. Then clean some more. Scrape the windows clean. Install inside with no wind. If it is in the air, it will get on the tint. DO NOT CREASE IT. They will not come out. I bit the bullet and had them done. I am a lot happier. Fronts are 32% and rear is 5%.

Use some dish soap (guys I've talked to prefer Joy), a few drops in a spray bottle of water. Clean as stated, cut tint to size, spray window with water solution, peel backer and apply tint to window. Get the tint squeegee when you get the tint and use it to squeegee the liquid out from between the tint and glass. Flat windows are pretty easy, but anything with compound curves is best left to the pros. It's worth a try if you are feeling lucky

What they said, plus I like to take my back window out completly, and tint it in my kitchen. Once dry, I pop it back in again. I got good tint from Autozne, I am very happy with it.

when you take the window out, do you still leave the little edge on the top of the window, that goes up into the seal, clear so that it doesnt peel off? hopefully that makes sense.
oops, i reread and you said the BACK window.

A guy here in town did my sides for me. He did it all the way to the top edge though, he didn't stop short to accomodate the seal. He dried it quick with a heat gun, he did take out the felts when he did the sides, but not the rest of the rubber. The car before mine he took the windows out on the sides. I thought that is what they were going to do to mine, but didn't. I tinted the back one all the way to the outer edges, once dry, they don't seem to peal.

as posted above clean surfaces and a fresh non creased roll of tint are a must i did my back window and used two 500 watt halogen lights to bake it after it went on but i did mine in the winter(which isnt but like 60 deg around here). If you are somewhere where it is hot and sunny with no wind you got it made just cut the tint a little big, apply the soapy water generously, get the bubbles out and let it sit. the key is wind will blow bubbles back into it so it has to be isolated from the wind.

im just paying someone to do mine. 100 for him to come to me and do the whole thing in 15% in high quality llumar tint which is awesome I had it on my last car and wouldnt get anything else. Getting done thursday.

I guess 30% isn't as dark as I'd thought. Got an appraisal today of $80+ tax for whatever we wanted. Plus it has a lifetime warranty. If it ever peals they'll replace it. I think we're gonna go that route.
