X2!! The fuel system tech articles are good and even a total newb can do this work on these trucks IMO. Plus there are folks to call for the occasional question and answer session.

If the fuel pickup boots have fallen off you may be sucking air, Add fuel to the tanks before testing anything else. That is what it sounds like to me at this point.

I did add fuel when it happened the first time. I am going to be driving this truck from maryland to kansas a couple times a year, i need her to be reliable. So I feel an all new fuel system is in order.

How much fuel did it have in it? any thing less than a 1/4 is danagerous...

I may have to try that, I have built many gasoline engines and I am an automotive painter so I am always around cars. I may give it a shot, especially since I have time, I don't need it until fall when i have am going to mcpherson college to major in auto restoration. I will have to decide what to do.

Just going over your tech articles and i think I may try it my self. I am going to have to send my pump off to agnem for the moose pump, but where do you all reccomend getting the orings and new injections, should I replace the fuel supply pump?

and to answer the question if the truck was below a quarter tank of fuel it was before I added fuel but got it running and then fueled it up all the way then it stopped running.

test it first, take the wire off the top of the IP the one on the front right side when standing looking over the radiator then have someone crank it while you hold the schrader valve open, it should flow a steady stream of fuel only no air.

My first thought was fuel pickups in the tanks but with that many miles on the pump it could very well be the pump or the lift pump. Do the fuel flow tests first because they are the free things. Then start throwing money at it.

Don't feel nervous about jumping in and fixing it yourself. Chances are if you've picked your nose in the same parking lot where a diesel is parked, you have as much experience on that engine as the *expert* you are about to pay.
With the info in the tech article and the help you have waiting here, you have a lot better chance of getting it going, and for a lot less money. If plans were for complete fuel system in the first place, you could just eliminate all the variables and get yourself a good rebuilt pump, a set of new injectors and an injector install kit with all the caps and orings to do it yourself and do the whole shebang and it'll end up costing you about what a shop will hit you for the injection pump alone.

My first experiene with my own 6.9 was to do this. I had to put another IP on it (had a spare) to get it running. That was after new water pump, radiator, etc. Anyway, it's really not that big of a job. If you've worked on a gasser, you'll be fine, just DON'T remove the ip gear cover, you can pull the plate off the front of it and unbolt the drive shaft on the ip.

Get the return line kit and if you're going to do injectors, might as well do them now. Also, do you have any idea what type of glow plugs were used? You may have mentioned it, but I didn't see it.

If your planning to get a Moose Pump, do yourself a favor and do an electric fuel pump mod. This is highly recommended. Rotary vane types are best.

The electric fuel pump has been recommended numerous times now so i think I better go with it.
