tomorrow, im going to pick up a spare block with cracked heads.
the "preemptive strike" has shifted form.
it is no longer a spare engine for the 87, but a project for a down and dirty toy.

i have all the makings for a custom turbo set up.
header flanges, header tubes, a GTP38, which i will have to mess with the int. and exh. housings.
an extra turbo IP, new cam, an intake that i can cut up for intake flanges.

this project went from a stock rebuild, to something on the wild end of my imagination.

i still need a set of heads, rods, pistons, and rockers(which will be harland sharpes)

what are stock heads fitted with in regards of valve material?
i hate to keep comparing these engines to gassers, but the stainless valves in my gassers work very well.
whats a better material for valves other than stainless?

Calvin, whats the schedule look like on the rods you previously mentioned?

the platform im going to choose is a 2WD SC SB OBS.
i have a 4WD OBS, but i think im better off building it and selling it,

even tho single cabs are not a good selling point, if i cant make a bit of coin off it, ill take it up to my parents property and leave it.
what i really want is a 2wd IDI with a locked rearend :sly
slammed on the ground, atleast 20" of surface area for the rear tires.

this is the basic idea im going for.

Make sure you run the numbers on gearing/tire size. A stout C6 would probably be your best bet, a they can be built up quite a hit.

Inconel is a popular valve material for turbo applications...

A single GTP38 probably won't be big enough... Nor will a turbo IP... Omega moose?

as i thought about a single GTP-38 wont be enough, im going to build the headers for a T-3 mount as an exhaust flange,
and mounting them in such a way that i can run a pair of TP-38's if i decide to.

as this is just a toy, i dont think ill need a wastegate.

i am by no means a smart man, or any authority on turbo set ups.
but the best way for me to learn is by actually doing it, even if i do it incorrectly a few times.

i have given myself headaches trying to read up about it, but certain things still wont sink in.

i plan on a huge flow IP, but this one will work for now.

plus, those things are fricken expensive.
not to mention the injectors that it will take to support the IP.

Here's the hair dryer I'm putting on mine and intake

that looks like a 093 housing on the left? whats on the right??

my intake will be a bit more elaborate.
i will be deleting the center cross over.

Just to add another bit of info about rebuilding engines.
If your building something that makes big power, I'd sleeve the cylinders also.
I'm just getting mine back on the road, it has new pistons, line bored, balanced and my #8 cylinder was sleeved because it wouldn't clean up by boring 030.
Mine doesn't make huge power, but I went for something that will be super dependable.
Just my .02.

Proper, standalone wastegates are easy to add... Just a mounting flange welded downstream of the turbo flange.

You'll likely need one for fine control of twins, especially if you don't have an intake crossover (which sounds weird)

In the turbo photo maybe an S66 on the right

There's an Omega Moose in the for sale section for $600... Just 500 miles on it

i was thinking about a super moose pump.
but if he will come down a bit on the omega, i may purchase it.
cant justify the 230 dollar discount for a used pump.
id rather spend the 835 on a new one.

been almost a year since i started this engine thought process.
took me a while, but its finally almost complete!
the drag vehicle i had thought about is still on my mind.
altho it will be with a powerstroke.
the twin turbo IDI now has a platform i can do little things on!!!
and the 87 has a damn near bran spanking new engine!!!

not bad for a years of work.

also squeezed a custom bronco in the mix!

i was feeling like i got nothing done, until i thought about this thread..
now i realize ive made decent leeway.

what will 2016 bring???
