Power Window to Manual Window?

Yes, opposite!

I've searched the forum and found a few threads going manual to power, but I'm interested in converting from power windows to manual windows.

I looked at LMC's catalog and found a regulator for about the same price as the power window motor, I'm just not sure what else (other than switch gear) I might need, or problems I might encounter.

Anyone have experience with this? If you're curious why, apply the E4OD to ZF5 swap logic ... simplicity, reliability, one less thing to break, etc.

Id just get one at the junkyard. There's really not much to wear our on a manual regulator.

I have done this on a couple of trucks. The actual mechanism is a direct bolt in replacement, but the door panels might be an issue. on an 88 Bronco I did, I just had to make a hole for the window crank shaft, but the 93 Crew Cab I had to change out the doorpanels completely due to the shape of them where the shaft would stick through wouldnt allow clearance for the crank handle.

I am fixing to do the same with a 1st Gen. Dodge.

The good doors I am using have power windows and locks and the rusty doors I am replacing have the good dependable crank-up windows.


If I were doing the same on a Ford, I would get a decent set of manual doors at the junk-yard, preferably with decent panels that already match your interior.

You may even find a set of doors as good or better than the ones you have and just change the whole thing.

door panels are a issue--totally diff--i had a truck with manual,,and converted to power--still might have the mechs--but the internal fire burnt the panels---!!!!!!!!!!

do yourself a favor and get new regulators. the old ones do loose their teeth over time. instead of riveting them back in, 1/4 in bolts with nylock nuts will do. if you are 80-91, there are knockouts in the door panels, 92-97 they changed the doorpanels altogether.

Heh, no worries. When he was talking about knockouts, is there just a piece of metal on the frame I could remove and put a manual crank in it?

Had manual and electric setups when I put my truck together; chose manual for reliability reasons, then had 2 of them strip all the teeth off of the gears. Previous 2 trucks with electric never gave me any trouble....

Pretty simple swap fer sure...requires new door panels and the correct window regulators a few bolts n nuts n yer golden...

Certainly NOT rocket science thats fer sure.

How about lots of pictures and doing a tutorial?
