ok i have a personal issue.

ford liked to use mass quantity's of hard line that i personally find no bueno.

looking at my truck today, i would like to delete the loop on the front cross member for the
power steering fluid.

i will also be running a hydroboost set up.

any of you run a fined type cooler here instead of the stock loop?

I don't have much to offer but I do recall I think it was bike maker who had ran the PS through the AT cooler loop on the rad and it was a no-go. Fluid starvation issues I think. I was thinking of doing the same thing so I took note.

yes I have, in the proses of swapping motors in my plow truck, 79 f250, I used a power steering cooler from a 06 GMC 1500. it fit pretty good on the front cross member where the old lines were, and I plowed all winter with no problems.

I'm running a finned cooler. My truck had a small one (like 2"x8") when I got it. I now have put in the bigger the ford factory E4OD finned cooler for my power steering and a bigger trans cooler from a 7.3 superduty. Hanging a 800lb snow plow on the front makes the steering work hard. I've done close to 200 billed snowplowing (foreign to you CA guys, I know) hours, wiht a lot of it being slow speed parking lots, and more just driving with this setup and have no issues.

A finned tube type cooler is good, a plate type is not.

My farm truck has a Saginaw pump from a van and a used a tube type cooler. Thing steers amazing.

My bronco I used a transmission plate type cooler with 35's and a factory pump. Maybe 1500-2000 miles on that set up and the pump is about shot, hard steering at idle. That's just what my findings are, plate types don't flow enough.

You may want to check out what Jaguar did for power steering fluid cooling on the V12 engines. They had a small finned cooler picking up air flow from the v belts. Odd place to pick up air flow but I guess it worked. they also has a fuel cooler too. It was run off the ac freon loop. I can't say that was a good idea because what is cooling when the ac system is turned off.

Tube and fin like factory old trucks etc.

Also since going all in...add a small spin on filter setup too to increase volume and clean fluid.

Yes. It is necessary when running larger/wider tires or fluids overheats and the power steering fades. I use a big cheap tube and fin type on mine. Anything is better than that loop which gets caked in mud and rusts out.

And some more. Aluminum plate is trans, black tube/fin is steering. It used to be my trans cooler.

The stock tube on the cross member uses the whole cross member as a heat sinc.

Disagree - there's no good thermal conductivity between the tube and crossmemeber - there's almost no conductivity since it's mounted on plastic spacers.
