Will standard paint/clear handle the temperature of a valve cover or do I need to look for high temp alternatives?

I work in the Paint Dept at Home Depot and I get asked this a lot. My answer is House paint is NOT designed to work and last at those high temperatures. Use Rustoleum Automotive paints of something like it.

Yes use a high temp paint and clear. It will last MUCH longer than just any old paint.
