Very weird. I had to replace the engine oil drain plug awhile back. Clerk at O'Reilly's said it was a 14-1.25 and gave me a new one (only one listed). Went home and it didn't fit. Went back, found one that was 1/2-20 and it worked perfect. Thought, "oh well, just another miss size in the computers". cookoo

I am looking into getting a Fumoto drain valve so I tried looking it up, no size listed. Got on the usual sites (Rock Auto, O'Reilly's, Autozone, etc) all list 14-1.25 as the size. Then I notice on O'reilly's that there is one listed at 1/2-20. It has a footnote "Supercab listing". :dunno

Did the supercab have a different drain plug size? If so, any reason why? It wouldn't surprise me, just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

yeah i had that problem. the parts people are idiots.

the size is 1/2-20

Ya, I knew the size of mine was 1/2-20. Just thought it was weird that everywhere else, on all the parts websites (Rock Auto included), it had 14-1.25.

Anyone know if the Fumoto F101n is 1/2-20? If not I will contact them on Monday.

Thanks for bringing the question up!!!

my oil pan plug is some weird ass plug lol. i got a plug from a-zone shortly after i got the truck, tried to install it and it acted as the threads of the pan were messed up. i am going to check their site, but part of me wants to say the plug i got was the 14-1.25.

if that is the case then i am gonna find something that is 1/2-20, make sure the pan threads are good, then buy a Fumoto and enjoy the convenience of that baby. used one of them for the first time in school the other day and holy crap are they nice!!

EDIT: just looked, sure enough the plug i bought is the 14-1.25.

They probably gave you the 14-1.25. That's what all of the sites say. The only one that lists 1/2-20 is O'reillys, and that is with the note for "Supercab listing".

Well guys as already posted. The size is 1/2x20 thread. But heres another often overlooked item about the drain plugs. Watch how deep the go up into the oil pan. Some drains have a magnet that sticks up into the oi pan.. Thats gonna contact the oil pump suction head. There is about 1/4 inch above the drin threads till you run into the suction head.. Don't feel thats correct.. Next time you remove the drain plug and the oil is out feel up into the oil pan. Its amazing how close the suction is to the bottom of the pan.. Now think about removing the oil pan with the engine still in the truck. Thats why the book tells you to drop the suction line.. But now try to reach in there to connect it again.. Thank you no.. I will pull the engine. Put it on a stand and be able to flip the engine over and work on it with ease. Nothing dropping in my face under the truck too. Gravity does a good job of dropping stuff in your eyes and other places..

They're only as good as the data they're given to work with.

I bought a plug for my truck for the first oil change and ran into the same dilemma. Ended up going with a Fumoto. Matter of fact, just did the first oil change with the Fumoto installed yesterday. Makes for an easy job, but with a couple of noteworthy items.....

1) The valve drains SLOWLY. And I mean SLOWLY, like 'go read War and Peace and come back' slowly.

2) Once I removed the hose clip I had installed to protect the valve from opening accidentally (per Fumoto's recommendation), I was amazed how easily the lever moved to the open position. Matter of fact, I managed to pull it open a bit while getting the clip off. A bit scary to think how easily it might have opened on its own, but with the clip on there I don't worry about it.

With this valve opening all by itself I'm thinking thats just not possible. Its really too bad we don't have a low oil senser in our oil pans. Gess.. Thats a nice idea but adding a Frantz filter return port and an oil temp gauge port.. How nice all that would be.. Actually nothing we can do about oil temps. Its not a controlable thing other than to slow down or shut off the engine. I'm really surprised how fast the oil temp drops when the engine is shut down. Same with my BTS E4OD trans with the extra 2 gallong Mag Hitech oil pan on it. I really don't think I have checked the trans oil level is about two years... No leaks seen when I'm under it. So where could it go. No vacuum valve to suck it into the intake either.. It has to leak out and even then I have two gallong before I feel anything..

I'm pretty fond of the Fumoto valve, Alan. One of the first things I put on this van. But, then, the plug threads were stripped on my F250/351W; so the Fumoto drains WAY faster than sucking the oil out through the dipstick tube, which is what I did.

With the hose fitting on the end, it is one of the lowest-hanging items on the van, but I haven't had a problem.

they make oversized and double oversized drain plugs that cut new threads into the oil pan. Where people mess up is when the plug doesnt seal so they give it another turn tighter. The threads dont seal the pan, its the o-ring on it.

Thats exactlly why I usually replace the gasket every time or every other time.. No need to drain new oil trying to replace a bad gasket..
