My 6.9 had a different size oil pan drain plug than my 7.3 does

I'm pretty sure mine was 1/2-20 but it looks like all the aftermarket oil pans are m14 now so if you have the stock pan on a 7.3 you should be good to get 1/2-20

Both of the 6.9s I had (85, 87) used 1/2-20 same as this 89 7.3. Maybe very early ones had something else?

I have a 1990 engine in Duchess, my 86, and for my understanding, they did make some changes to the 7.3s for the model year 1990. The 6.9 that was in this truck originally was of course an 86, and it had a larger drain plug. The one on my 7.3 is pretty small.

Could be that one of those engines had an aftermarket oil pan on them

I know that there was a difference in the size of the hex parts. One size was 7/8" while the other one was 3/4". Is that what you're talking about?

No the actual threads are different. As well as drain location. Will show in the morning
