oil cooler

can someone tell me exactly how the oil cooler works on a 7.3 idi. although separate, does oil and water enter the cooler on one end and leave on the other. sounds stupid but it will help me make my decision.

It is a liquid heat exchanger, coolant and oil are constantly flowing through the cooler.

Look at the flow diagram closely. It tells you where the coolant flows thru the engine. For some reason its not showing the oil coolant flow thru the cooler so here it is... The coolant flows from the back of the cylinder block thru the cooler towards the fron of the block. The oil flows from the front of the block towards the back of the cooler bundle and then it drops down into the fliter. Hope this helps you.

just gonna take the cooler apart now. getting oil in the radiator and water in the oil pan
