Hey guys. I have a transmission brake off of an early 90s F Superduty. Truck had a ZF5 behind a 460. Is there a difference between transmission brakes off of a 460 vs a 7.3?

The only differences I know of on the 460 vs idi zf5’s was first gear and the bell housing. I couldn’t imagine the brake being different.

That was my understanding as well. The brake has to have the same bolt pattern and accept the same output shaft else the 460 trucks would also have to have a different transfer as well.

I have a guy coming to buy the brake from me tomorrow but he said a friend of his at a ford dealer claimed that the brake off a 460 truck has a different part number.

So the top one is my brake and the bottom one is what came off of his truck which he says is an OBS. Not sure what year, trans, or engine though.

The brakes are all identical, but they do not all use the same u joint. You can use a conversion joint no problem, but just something to look for.
