So I put a new starter in my truck. I tried to turn it on but only got like 4 cranks before the batteries died. I replaced the bad one had the other one charge and it started. It ran fine the rest of the day. I tried to start it this morning and it just turns over. I know its getting diesel. I get a white cloud of exhaust when its turning over.

Both battery's start the truck go get another new battery
I would Also check your GlowPlugs they could be burnt out replace with Motorcraft Berus or I've had Goodluck with DieselRX Plugs get a test light and check all your connections ie GlowPlug controller-harness etc.

White smoke out the tail pipe during cold cranking tells us the glow plugs are not working. So find out why they stopped working. Could be a burned out connection in the engine main wire harness or failed plugs but your plugs are not working.
