Its a 4-5 yr old troybuilt push mower with a 190cc b&s. Its a damn nice push mower 21in.

My feeling would be, that age, and it's outta warranty, use the 15w-40. I have been for many years. I am running the recommended 10w-40 in my new Cub Cadet push mower, but, it's under warranty and don't want to do anything to void it, if I ever need it. Don't think I will, adn I do all my own work on my small stuff too, been doing it all my life (over 40 years now)......... once the warranty is up on the new mower, it will get 15w-40 just like the rest of them.

But, like I found out, DO NOT use the 5w-40 Full Synthetic....... I use it in my 6.0 and my old Jetta, which both love it, but the Kohlers in the Cubs didn't like it..... too thin, my Cubs don't really use much oil, and definitely do not burn any oil...... my 1650 (16hp Kohler Single) would smoke at idle when at operating temp.... it was changed before it was started again......

Troy Bilt makes a good product but they are expensive. I have always wanted one of their big rototillers for our garden. I wont buy or use a front tine tiller. In our yard I have used the huge Mang tillers that require a small trailer to transport them. Those are big heavy tillers. The drive wheels actually slows down the tiller on the ground. I was tilling some hard clay soil when the tillers got up on the surface and the tiller took off. Lucky for me as it left my hands the tiller had a dead mans switch and it shut down. Otherwise it was leaving town in a hurry. Good suggestions on oil usages here too.

Gary,

I got over using any walk behind tiller DECADES ago....... helped out a neighbor several years ago who was using a front tine, walk behind and it SUCKED!!!!!!

Dad bought an IH Cub Cadet in '75 to till and mow with....... so I knew the difference.......

When momma said she wanted a garden, I went and got the proper tool......

(not actual picture of mine) Mine is currently wearing the 50" Mowing deck..

They get used all year around. I have a blade and snowthrower for winter (each tractor gets one), 2 decks for the summer, a tiller, a 1-bottom turning plow and a cart....... They probably get used more than anything else around here does..... even the new Cub Cadet push mower, I only use it to trim with......

Sorry for a small thread hijack here, but where did you get a one bottom for your Cub?

Sorry for a small thread hijack here, but where did you get a one bottom for your Cub?

Ours is a 10' Brinly with a IH Cub Cadet 3 point hitch (not to be confused with a Category 0 or Category 1 like on a bigger tractor, the do make "real" 3 point hitches for Cubs, but this is not what I am talking about. I'll post a couple of pictures to explain) to sleeve hitch adapter. We bought it in the mid 70's. From the local IH Dealer. Brinly (Brinly-Hardy now) which is still in business making accessories for lawn and garden equipment, including a 1 bottom plow. https://www.brinly.com/

Current sleeve hitch products: https://www.brinly.com/ground-engaging-attachments.html You have to have the proper rear lift and sleeve hitch adapter for your tractor. The tractor MUST be Ground Engaging Capable. The tractor pictured above the IH Quietline with a tiller weighs almost 1,000lbs as you see it in the picture. The Cub Cadets you can get from Home Depot, Tractor Supply or Lowes can not be used with this type of equipment. The present day equivalent, which appears to by the Cub Cadet XT3 series starts at $4,000. Which stands to reason, my 1450 and 1650 sold for about $1000 when new in 77/78, which is equivalent to just over $4,000 today......

Here is what our 1-bottom plow looks like:

Here is a Turbo Diesel, doing its thing.... (It has a Cat. 0 3 point on it)

No worries cub cadet's are cool as hell. I'd much rather be working on them than the damn push mower.
