found a set of mirrors off a f700 in the yard this morning. got em for 60 bucks. spent the rest of the day installing them. i reused my factory lower brackets, just too them off and installed them on the other side door to get the angle correct. then mounted up the top and drilled the holes for the top mounts. i know the mirrors dont match, i am getting heated ones on monday.

my personal experience is to get away from the panel style mirrors like what you have on there now. there's too many things that can hide behind them on a low to the ground truck. they do have the "pod" type mirrors. check out the fedex/ups section of the catalog.

I've never been too crazy over the old skool mirrors. I'd like to fond the mirrors off of a late model Freightliner Columbia. They only have a lower single stalk that mounts to the door.

I have the same mirrors hanging in the shop, waiting for me to decide to install them.

I also have a pair of pristine heated/lighted heads that I may or may not put on them.

The heads already on them are perfect stainless factory FORD and look great.

I am gonna pretty much do as you did with the lower brackets, except I am going to retain the lower legs also.

The West-Coast ones have the same lower legs with them.

Yours is the first one I have seen that didn't use the legs.


Looks good.


If you are already used to big trucks, you won't have any trouble with them hiding stuff; if you have a jack-rabbit driving attitude, you may pull out in front of something.

One other thing :

If you will relocate those brackets, TOP and BOTTOM, such that the rear bolt-hole is about where you currently have the front hole, you will like those (or any mirror) a lot better.

I have so long been in the habit of relocating all my mirrors as far forward as the door will allow that I tend to forget that it is not standard.

Also, with them moved forward, there is not near the blind spot as where they currently are.


It's just a few more holes to drill; have at it.

but i got a set in a yard ima pick up soon from an ih loadstar they got the lower brackets and then the heated lighted ones i posted up will go on

I don't recommend that.

In a few weeks, every little filled hole will start showing through the paint.

Then, the paint will develop little circle crack-lines around every hole.

That looks a lot worse than just putting a nice shiny stainless screw in each empty hole.

that is a half assed was to do it.The stainless bolts do the trick till he wants to paint the whole door. Then he can grind the head off the nut-sert, and either weld the hole shut or use panel adhesive to put a patch in from the backside

Drivers door has nutzerts in it, pass side didn't. Just holes with nuts on the inside. The stainless bolts work great for me. Only time paint will be sprayed is when I want to spray the whole truck
