The engine does sound noticeably louder and "clackyer". The idle is a lot more poppy sounding like it all of the sudden has high compression or something. Clanky might be the best word for it, definitely louder and beefier sounding. I'll pull the other IP off my other truck and test it in this truck again. It was unfortunately a perfect storm in which both my 6.9s needed new IPs at the same time, one I ordered from pensecola, the other from diesel performance. Maybe both these companies sent me bad pumps? Its possible. The other truck does have trouble starting a bit. Moral of the story here is to listen to the vets of this site and pay the extra money for a pump that is rebuilt by a reputable rebuilder! My last pensecola pump lasted 5 years. However they already sent me a crap pump that I had to send back right away because the truck eo2uld fully loose power at around 2500 rpm. Maybe this replacement they sent me is 180 out. I'll swap pumps again tomorrow to see if i have better luck with the diesel performance rebuilt pump. Thanks for the insight everyone!

Ok, now I think we may be getting somewhere. If indeed your pump is timed 180° out, it's not a problem intrinsic to the pump itself, you just need to reinstall it with the sprocket rotated 180° from its current position.

It's been quite a long while since I performed the job and so I shall defer and refer you to the forum search bar for the nitty grittys of the job.

Perhaps, another user, one not up so much past their bedtime, will chime in with further details or even a link.

If this is the case, it's a relatively simple fix which will cost you only a small bit of time and maybe some black RTV.

Been there, done that. I've a feeling your current woes are soon to be at an end.

Now I've stewed another minute or two, I've a question for the more seasoned members viewing this thread:

Is it possible the original poster has the timing gear off by a single tooth?

Would the engine fire with ether and continue to idle under such circumstances?

I'm just spit-balling and I don't want to waste the posters wrench twisting time pursuing my hair brained ideas. It's bad enough when I do that to myself...

Hes got a shit pump and a push button used improperly will toast a set of glow plugs in short order
You cant build a pump 180 out, but with those 2 pump shops he mentioned anything is possible

This isn't from either one. He said that he pulled the IP and left the housing alone. The gear timing didn't change.

    Lol exactly.
I thought I was kinda dumb in real life, but then Al Gore invented the internet and gave me the opportunity to outdo myself.
