New idea to help with heatsoak

i have the typical ip that sometimes won't start when hot. Last week I adjusted my hinges so my hood had a tiny gap in the rear to vent and that helped a lot. So I decided to order a lover kit and install, I just finished up so I'll let you know how it works but I noticed under my hood stayed so rediculously hot with the stock setup and insulation.

Having owned a bumpside with over 125 true louvers in the hood, keep an eye on the rain that gets in.....
Used a product called louver tray back in the day.

Seems like it would be effective. But I would be worried about all the rain.

Yes luckily it doesn't rain too much out here, but I positioned them so that they sit as close as they can to the gap between exhaust manifolds and inner fender. I was hoping that would be better than directly over the ip or spread out to the edges

That is a BIG mod for Jeepers. I use to use Chrysler LeBaron hood louvers on my XJ's and MJ's. I could also sell a set for $150! Now there is a company that specializes in hood louvers.

Gotta say it's 110 out here and I haven't had to use water on the ip once!! It's amazing how much heat blows out of em at idle just from the fan

Not only that but when it would be over 100 my coolant temps would get up to 210, today it never went over 200

Don't mean to be that kind of guy, but why ruin the hood to help aid an existing problem when what you really need to do is replace the injection pump. Heatsoak is only common if you have a junk IP that needs to be rebuilt/replaced.
Don't see how that would help your starting issue. And no bueno when it rains

Good things hoods are probably cheap down there. To each their own I suppose.

Hoods are plentiful around here. I like the look more than anything

If I were going to attempt anything like this, I think I'd put a 1" or 2" cowl induction hood on the truck.........

so a 300 dollar fiberglass hood that needs to be fitted and painted vs 35 dollar vents. hell we used heater registers on my pops jeep. giving the air a place to go other than out the bottom in any way is better. i thought about possibly doing something like this in my fenders to 1, let the heat out and 2 prevent the rain issue. you will see alot of racers that put spacers on the hood hinges to pick the back of the hood up

Paint? My whole truck still needs paint!
And I wouldn't use a 'glass hood, I detest fiberglass.........
I guess I don't think of the price of people buying body panels, for myself it's be a case of grab some sheet from the steel rack, run it through the shear to cut to size, run it on the break, weld it on the hood, and go to town with the plasma cutter.

But yes, I'd probably have a shiny hand rubbed finish on the hood of a rusty work truck.






Or else I'd have a hood that was painted around the edges with a scoop that was rattle-can primed.

Put a computer heat sink on the top of your ip... haha
