Ok, that sounds better! Really though, if you keep it in good repair it will serve you a long time. You don't have to make it a show truck, just keep it in good running condition and it will be reliable. And as long as you don't beat it all up you should be able to make out good selling it when you decide you don't need/want it any longer.

The body on my truck is bent and beat up and the paint is peeling everywhere.
Right now I can't afford to fix it all. But I will do what I can piece by piece.
Towcat here on OB has a saying about Texas trucks.
"They are rode hard and put up wet" And he is right about the majority of trucks here in Texas.
Mine was treated like that, but now I have it and it is in better hands.

I encourage you to hold on to your truck and throw a few hundred $'s at it to make it happy. If nothing else it would probably run circles around the Mercs, even while towing one!

Also, I've always thought Rising Fawn was a great name for a town. A lot better than Possum Neck (been there, got the t-shirt).

Maybe towing, but my straight 6 603 87 300D is a 0-60 in 8 sec. car. My 85 coupes got the 617 and it can do it in 12 sec with the turbo pushing 18 boost...

8 sec for a stock turbo diesel is flying!

The truck does not seem to be a total slouch. has plenty of go from the line... but on interstate I wish there was one more gear to go into...

Well, drove it about 600 miles today pulling tha 81 mb. About 5400 pounds. Couldn't even feel it back there. Ran 65 on cruise at 2100 rmps most the trip. Looks like I averaged about 11.8 mpg. I guessings that's pretty normal. Trucks ran smooth as silk the whole way... I'm liking it.

It did 17.9 mpg on the return trip with a full om617 engine sitting in back, averaging 65. I think I could get that up to 19 or 20 empty with the tailgate down and those big ass mirrors folded in .


Na, I like it. I'll let it stick around for a bit, besides, I have 2 standing cash offers for 2k right now...

welcome ....( ive only been on here a week or two myself ) but your in the right place i was told this is where all the knowledge on the IDI trucks is an from what i have read so far there is alot of great info an very helpfull members on here .......an for 9 bills thats a really nice looking rig how many miles you have on it

Dont know... odometer reads almost 80k... so 280 380 more? hard to say... I've always wondered why they didn't make the odometers with that extra number.

Well, it's been 7 months since I bought the truck. I have to say, it's been dependable for the most part. I ended up replacing the batteries, tires, glow plug relay, valve cover gaskets, oil pressure sender, and the front sway bar bushings. I've put about 7k on it. runs like a dream now. dry as a bone. Sold it to a local kid, who put stacks on it...Then I got it back. I'm going to remove them and put a regular pipe back in. Had it up for sale for awhile now with lots of looks, trade offers but no cash. So, I'm going to continue the rebuilding of it. fix the seats, might even go ahead and paint it. Might as well make it as good looking as it runs

That's a nice rig for what u paid the maintance is all u need basically and a little help from OB and you will stay on the road
