New addition to the Fleet

The end goal (as i have stated before) is to put my 6.9 in this beast, but i need to get the body and brakes straight before i do any of that. I got this by giving up on the tow truck idea and trading a 1991 Geo Metro for it. Since the best offer i got on the metro was $800 i think a running though beat-up travelall is a steal. Plus, I just really like them.

ya' know....there's rustbelt guys here who would lynch you for calling that thing "beat up". they damn near did when I posted a pic of a body and frame going to the mill. I sure hate to see what they will do to you for calling that gem "beat up"

lol well that nice to hear. there are definitly some panels that i am going to have to cut out and do some sheet metal work. also there is rust under the front bumper. i may need a pro to look into that. the brakes needa lot of going over, but overall it should be fun to fix up, and not too expensive. need a front bench seat, but since i am not "restoring" it i am sure i can find something nice that will look good if not original. the rear hatch really should be replaced, but i think i am going to have to just patchwork it. soo a pseudo ratrod kinda project.

if it's a 1210 or 1310 and you're not a resto purist, do yourself a favor and find a fab shop who will graft in a later model D70 or Sterling 10.25 rear.
if it's a 1010, the rear end replacement is a must do.

It's a 1100C. I admit i haven't even looked into replacement parts yet. just worried about the brakes and body for now. the thing must have a crazy gearing becasue it seems to want to leap out from under me. At least compared to the 6.9.

good to know a Sterling will work under there. I'd love to see the day come when i can strip the 87 F250 and use the Travelall as my daily. add a few amenities, and it's not so far fetched.

all I'm trying to do is give you a heads up before you spend a whole lot of money chasing down obsolete brake parts and then turning around and having to replace the axle due to the fact the torque from the IDI will tear it apart. iirc, the 1/2t axles had a taperfit onto the drum center. It's a battle trying to get one off but the motor will spin it and shear the key also.
I own one of those cute snap-on drum pullers just for those jobs, it sat unused for years until my first encounter with changing a subaru CV axle. it now has a newfound purpose in life thanks to tight fitting subaru axles

I was just kiddin man. we don't seem to communicate well. You should default to i appreciate you input when reading anything i write, becasue i do. I just usually throw an ill recieved joke in there someplace.

Ah that makes sense. So before I repower or do a major rebuild on the rear brakes i will just go with a better rear. I do like a good sturdy, thick rear end. . .
i wonder how much that will cost :/ still long way off for now. hopefully i can get the brakes to a respectable/safe level without doing toooo much to the rear. a new booster, lines, shoes might be enough for now.

i've thought about a small lift. likely just a couple inches of body lift and taller tires, but yeah that would be way down the line. If i get the outer body owrk down in 6 months i will be pleased.

Yeha i'll take the 10.25 or 60. Free is my favorite price so the 10.25 sounds great, and if you come down I'll time you regardless. I've gotten so much help from this community i wouldn't think of charging for timing. just do me a favor before you come and make sure you #1 glow plug comes in and out easy. (i suggest hitting it with pen oil of choice and letting soak for a few minutes while hot, then working it out, the hot enigne is a pain, but things move more freely)

p.s i am jealous about brazil. I studied BJJ for 3yrs and made plan to take a training trip to brazil but age/oinjuries/money left me wanting.

Yeah I am excited and depressed to go Brazil. I'll be in Sao Paulo the entire time. I am supervising the electrical installation on a very large conveyor job we've got there. I just don't want to be away from the family that long. But I am lucky to have a decent job that has been busy for most of this recession so far and if that means I have to suffer a little bit then so be it.
