Mystery Tube

What is this tube? And is it important? Looks like rubber hose pushed onto some steel line.

Pretty sure that's the drain tube that attaches to the bottom of the fuel filter. Saves you from having to drain the filter all over the valve cover.

I see where I think it’s supposed to connect. There’s a small metal tube sticking out but it’s not long enough for a hose to hold onto.

I found a replacement part picture on the internets and it looks like mines missing a plastic piece that has the hose barb. I think mystery solved, and I’ll have to get a new drain valve if I want to use the hose.
