10 or 12 ga. wires terminating at a plug.

Located at lower left floor board/kick panel, dropping out from under the dash.

The yellow plug color should be the tip off, but I'm just not getting it.:confused:

Wracking my brain trying to figure out where this plug should go. I have yet to
be able to drive the van, only seen it drive on video before the C6 blew.

I have all the usual manuals, of course they do not cover the Diesel Wiring and
barely cover the Gas Wiring. I have a set of 16 drawings from Ford (Mechanics
Wiring Diagrams) for the dealerships, and STILL CANNOT find this plug.

I can track the wires up into the loom, but the bundle is (done really well) covering
up too much. Trying NOT to CUT the thing open, so I thought I'd ask.

It's a Ford style plug, Yellow, with no compliment,

The wire colors:
Red/Blk (could be old/blue)
Blk/Blu
Blu/Blk

So far all I can think of is a possible trailer connection, provided by the dealer???

Any thoughts or positive comments are welcomed!

Best regards,
George

P.S. Mods, how do I donate to this site?

My best guess is that the cable is for a trailer brake controller. Don't hold me to that, though. I'm only guessing.

Somebody will come along with better knowledge.

Based on the wire colors, I vote brake control as well. Typically it blue to the brakes, red to the stop lights, black 12V in and a ground.

Hmmm, gotcha, some sort of brake control. Surge brakes. I will look under the carpet for the
other end. The van does have a pretty decent tow hitch on it. More research.

Thanks for the tips!

Probably electric trailer brakes. A surge brake is typically something else just on the trailer. At least that's my understanding.

Hmmm, could be brakes. I just went through schematics for elec. brake systems. The minimum number of
wires was 4, most were 6 wires, and much smaller gauge, like 18 or 20ga.

Couple thoughts. The fact that the plug is yellow, usually indicates this is for the consumer to see/use.

I thought "Accessory Plug" but there are two female/one male (ALL would be female.) Female plug usually
means supplying voltage, the male would be a return signal... ...but NOT always.

Still digging...

One source states yellow connectors are for AIRBAGS!!!:eek::eek:

But from I have seen in the past, Airbag Connectors have an Interlock and this one has NO interlock.

Another source suggests Trailer Pre-Wire:

Trying to confirm a factory trailer package, but nothing yet. If it's just a trailer
connector, then I can deal with it later. I am doing a bunch of re-wire/wiring planning
right now and need to know, just in case that I might fry something...

I appreciate your help so far! Anybody have a pic of one or confirm what I have,
I would be much-obliged!

George

Does your brake lines out of the master cylinder have any place where there could have been a line tee'd in?

Do you have a multimeter? If so, check for 12v on the red wire. Ground continuity on the black wire. Also, is there a trailer connector plug at the rear. You could CHCL continuity of the blue wire to it.

I bet it is wiring to a electric brake control that was triggered by the hydraulic system.

I'm on the verge of cutting some of the bundles, but holding off for some responses here.

The batteries are out for at least 2 more weeks, I had to weld up some new mounts and had
to beef up the mounts to handle the larger batteries.

I will do as you say, once I have juice, I have meters. Maybe if I can find the "other end" of
these mystery wires (larger gauge,) then I can get some answers.

Thanks for your help!

George

cpdenton gives good advice above and can tell you PDQ if it's for trailer hook ups. Start looking around the **** end for the trailer bundle.

Thank KF, I usually have a spare battery but wouldn't you know it, not right now. About 2 weeks out and in
the meantime I am making custom wiring looms for controllers/relays/stuff. I came across this Yellow Plug
during my planning for the added wiring...

...my thinking is the yellow plug is not Life/Death of the vehicle. I did start it one time before I tore it apart,
this is after it didn't run for over 6 weeks, first start:

(So it IS working and nothing is burning up. Still haven't driven it yet though...)

Thanks for the suggestions!

That plug isn't factory at all, Ford didn't use any plug like that on these trucks (maybe back in the 50/60's) and the wire colors are not factory ones either.

C1101 in the diagram is the connector you should see in the cab and it's a 3pin small round plug that would come through the firewall by itself, this is if it had factory trailer wiring.

It's more then likely that it is for a brake controller but someone added it in custom.

And yes yellow/orange connectors and wire loom are guarantied to be airbag stuff but nothing on are rigs.

Hey "IFRYTHINGS" (ha ha)

Now this makes total sense. I've restored several 1960's Fords, and they all use that style of
push connector. This being my first 80's Ford, I didn't think about them not being used. I seem
to recall they were phased out around 1969 or so, if not sooner.

Also, and this is a good point, the wire- it's just too large, maybe a heater but it would be hard
wired, and not supplied with a easy-to-access connector.

I agree on the airbag connectors, they are yellow/orange, but have an interlock, as I've seen on
my 2003 Ford.

Just using logic, this is fitting the situation. Thanks for the help, I can keep going on my wiring
mission now;Sweet

Best regards,
George
