Finally I got all the needed "parts" for my timing now. The Snapon MT 1241 lite with advance came today. That will be used with my Kent Moore J33300 meter... I can't wait till tomorrow to find out where the shop has set my timing for $130.00... They wont be getting any more of my short hairs that for sure. Last year they were charging $80.00 for timing.... How things go up. I told them I wanted 8.5 BTDC. They wrote up the bill as 8.5 ATDC and said it was the same thing... I know its advanced but just how much will be found out later....

Yea, we paid to have my moms new 6.9 engine professionally timed since my 1480 meter has a broken probe right now, and they didnt even get it close to where it was supposed to be. We had to use ether to start the thing it was off so far.

Sometime this week I should be getting my Rotunda injecter tester. I plan to pull and check all the "G" code injecters. Now what will the best place to put an injecter that is say 200 lb higher pop pressure than all the other 7??? The reason for asking this is I know the used injecters have taken a set after being run for a time. Ideally we want all the pop pressures the same but how close to the same is really needed. I understand if one is 1500 lbs and the rest are 2100 lbs the low one is going to be way advanced. So you see where I'm going with this question. How will a mixed pop pressure set work on the timing? I know these motors can and will run with plenty of tollerane in the pop pressure timing.

I'm looking foward to the tests. I've looked at injector testers on fleebay, but not sure what will work for these IDI injector and what won't. Anyway, got any photo's of you tester?

I can't remember what the acceptable range is, but I remember on my little German diesels, balancing them all to within 5 bar of each other will make for an incredibly smooth engine ( roughly 72.51887 psi :D It costs a bundle at the pump shop for that extra service, but if you have your own tester it would be worth your money to invest in a large selection of shims to be able to do it. You couldn't pay someone enough to get it as close as you would really like it.

Y'all are lucky that you have a shop that can actually time your engine. I called around here to ask 1) could they time the motor, and 2) if I pulled the injectors, could they bench test them. I got the same answers from everybody: to #1, "duuuuuuuuhhhhh.... timing is controlled by the computer.... not a p/stroke? ... naw, we can't do that." and to #2, "there's no way to test them off the engine!" People aggrivate me to no end! These answers are from advertised "diesel specialists" in town.

Off topic... sorry.

So where do you get the shims for these injectors? How do the injectors come apart & where do you put the shims?

i would like to know this also since i am one compression fitting away from trying my pop tester. (some one must have switched fittings in the bin at the hardware store:mad:)

i have also got the same responses from diesel shops, its not a powerstroke.....are you sure. good thing i found this place.

You can get shims from any Stanadyne dealer. You should figure on unscrewing a "test" injector to see how they are put together rather than experimenting on one you will actually need. We did this as a group at the Lisbon Rally, when we were trying to fix up EZ's truck. The injectors are pretty simple, but they need to stay squeeky clean and are very finiky to adjust. I.E. - you can spend a LOT of time doing this.

All the machine shops around here do them. We did many sets for the ford garage, way back when. I've played with them, shimmed them etc. but it's been a few years!
