Earlier today I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Mel
...at his home and having THE MAN time my Baby Moose.
Well, as I hoped my Baby Moose/IP was infact running at 5.50 and that's with the original IP marks lined up. No doubt normal wear in the cam gear and IP gear cause the retarded (owner) and timing.
Like the precision PRO Mel is
...he quickly but surgical covered the front of my truck with a thick blanket that would protect it from a bullet.
The master uncased his required precision equipment and hooked everything up. Upon starting the truck and raising rpm to 2000 we saw the pathetic 5.50 state of advance
The diesel master Mel
quietly knew there was power hiding, but kept it low key.
After loosening up the Baby Moose bolts he had me grab hold and pull to the passenger side just a tad. Locked it down, refired the beast and whamooo 9.50 @ 2000 rpm and at the first time!
It was a keeper! The engine idled with a vigorous, healthy smoothness like it was new.
Then, the test drive...I immediately noticed new life out of the gate...at the end of Mel's
driveway the rear tire lit-up with little effort!
The engine had a new slight rattle as it should.
Now the BEST part...I made Mel
drive my truck!
As soon as he laid into it I'll never forget is facial expression and comment > "ohhh yea Ray, nothing wrong with this truck". He honestly seemed impressed with the ride, tight steering and how the ole NA7.3 performed.
I also must mention the passion and immense work/dedication he has put into his love for Model Railroading! I could spend hours on end just trying to take in and notice every little detail in MooseVille. I've never seen anything like it...it's MASSIVE!
Ending I'll just leave you with this...on the hwy heading towards Mel 55 mph was the norm.
Heading home, I caught myself at 65+ mph several times...the engine had indeed found lost power > and liked it!
Hats off to a true gentleman and great fella...Mel
