must see blower fan upgrade

well i had an old heater box out of my old 92 tbird sc i happen to glace at the one in the truck the other day and was like wow those are like the same fan.. and noticed the blower fan in my tbird sc blows great.. so i got to thinking

decided to try and tackle this tonight and install this old fan into my truck.. first i tested the plug for the fan and it was a perfect fit

so i tried to fit the fan past the heater box, no go so i had to shave some off the side of the box more then in the pics but you get the idea. also cut the stock nipples off so i could fit the fan perfect by eye in the box

then i put the fan in had to make some new holes i only used 3 of the 8 holes in the tbird fan couldn't really get to the 4th spot to make a new hole... also hooked back up the fan vent hose deal.. had to stretch mine a little cuz i didn't notice i had to to far up.. but that also mattered to fit the wiring with out having to cut and splice

put the fan it turned the fan on and no air.... so i got out swapped the wires around by taking the plug apart and switching the wires.. and wala good strong air coming out the vents

so the parts i used would be from a 89-93 tbird sc assume lx tbirds have the same fan took about 30min to do and blows about 2-3times harder air/heat

I have to wonder why the t-bird fan works so much better than the truck fan?

Maybe your truck fan was just worn out? I feel like my truck fan blows really strong air when it is on the highest setting. I don't have A/C just heat.

Guess you could be right but I seen other people complaining about bad air flow.. I have a crew cab I can now sit in the back and feel the air blow harder then it did with the old fan.. I really don't think it was worn out it spun free and didn't make sounds

Only thing I can figure is higher cfm or more rpm motor my opinion night and day difference

The Ford truck blowers were anemic straight from the factory and most of the after-market replacements I have used are no better.

One would think that maybe an after-market replacement might not be so anemic, but that has not been my experience.

Does anyone know yet if the parts-store replacement for the T-Bird is as strong as the factory unit ??


I have an old GM blower that spins ten-times faster than any of my Ford blowers.



On my F-350, I added TWO relays, HOT and GROUND, triggered by a toggle-switch, and more than doubled the performance of my blower; but, it still is not as strong as many of the GM trucks; those things blow like a cyclone.

Bringing up an old one. My fan squeals and isn't that strong. Thinking of trying this, and the heater hose bypass for the summer. I'm going to try to order one from rock auto for a 92 t bird and see what happens. Maybe I'll even add a relay like midnight rider did. Any updates on these ideas guys?

The relay thing is a must, Im doing 4 relays ,takes all the load off the heater switch. The switch controls ground and that much current running thru grounds is what causes most of our electrical bugs.

And where are you folks mounting these relays? Under hood? Under dash? This is the first I heard of a relay mod for the heater switch, makes perfect sense though,
