I HAVE A 97 F450 DUMPTRUCK AND IT SEEMS LIKE IT DOESN'T HAVE A LOT OF POWER ESPECIALLY PULLING A TRAILER. IS THERE SOMETHING I CAN DO TO WAKE THIS TRUCK UP?

Welcome to the site. Add an open air element, 3" downpipe and then a chip. BTW, there is no need to yell (CAPITAL LETTERS)...our hearing is fine.

Welcome to Oilburners Snow. Give us some info about your truck and what your expectations of the truck are and we can probably dial you in with some spare ponies.

  • 5 speed or auto trans?
  • how much do you tow?
  • how heavy do you tow?
  • how much do you want to spend?
  • how many miles on this truck?
  • what is the general mechanical condition of this truck?

I will say first things first is a set of gauges, pyrometer to keep an eye on the EGT's is essential. Depending on the tranny, if auto you want a trans temp gauge if manual then not so improtant, and you should have a boost gauge so you can monitor boost levels.

After that, then onto an air intake. For the 94-97 model PSD's the Tymar is one of the favorites and can be had for about 150 dollars, then you need to move to the down pipe and entire exhaust system if you choose. If that doesnt get you in the ball park (which it probably wont, but it sets you up properly for further modifications) then you can move to a multi position chip programmed to your desires. Now if you still arent satisfied we can move to modified injectors, modified high pressure oil system, modified fuel system etc etc.......... bottom line is how deep are your pockets and what are the expectations of this truck. We can get you 450 HP at the rear wheels if you want it.
