Okay, so I think i really want to do this.... swapping from a C6. Here's what I have:
1) Manual steering column(thanks Nick)
2) Pressure plate, clutch disk, and flywheel from ebay
3) Bellhousing en route(thanks Hahn)

what I know I still need
1) kevlar throwout bearing bushing(from South Bend)
2) Brand new or reman clutch m&s cylinder
3) Junkyard floor pan and pedal assy.
So...am I leaving anything out? What should I look for on the clutch and flywheel to determine if they are suitable to use as is or need repair/replacement? I know it would probably be preferrable to get a whole new clutch pack, but this has low miles and I got it dirt cheap(small budget at the moment) I could replace the clutch disk at least if its a good idea, they aren't too expensive alone.
I was advised to replace the gaskets on the tranny before it goes in since they are notorious leakers, so I'm told. Got any other ideas of what needs to be done? What's teh best procedure for removing the pedal assy and floorpan from the junkyard? Thanks,
JD

JD-
The floorpan unbolts with a 5/16" driver. I'd look for a zf5 floorpan (or doghouse as some call it.) I spent a bunch of time modifying my t19 one to clear the zf tranny. You never know you may get a deal you can't pass up on the zf in the future!
The pedal assembly donor truck will probably have the master/slave still attached. The master, slave, and line conecting them are available cheaply so don't install anything to mangy.
You can probably wire your neutral safety switch to work with the switch on the pedal, or simply bypass it.
get the crossmember and rear mount to match your transmission and truck or spend more hours cutting and welding...but boy is my crossmember strong!

How different is the tranny crossmember for the C6 than the T19? I guess you can't just drill it to accept the T19 mounts? Thanks

JD,

I can't remember but do you already have a T19 to put in? If not I would really look at finding a ZF5 before you do the conversion. You won't really gain anything as far as mileage goes since you don't have the OD. If your C6 is gone it is a 'cheap' rebuild that you can probably do yourself.
Just a thought...

I've got a dirt cheap T19 that works. You don't think I'll pick up any mileage with the T19? It seems most here can get a little better than with the C6. I won't be too displeased even if it doesn't pick up mileage. I'd just rather have the manual and not have to worry about the annoyance of stuff like the VRV. I have broken three of them since I had the truck...and they aren't cheap and getting harder to come by. I might eventually invest in a gear splitter for the highway. The OD might not help me too much since most of my driving is in suburbia anyway.

You'll most likely pick up a bit with the T19 but only as much as the torque converter slipped. I hear you on the VRV!! It might be a good thing if you have all the gear and then if a ZF5 comes up you'll be ready to jump on it. As with all of us the Gear Vendors or other OD is the thing to have. Good luck and if you find an OD send it ot me!! LOL

Yeah, I don't really expect to pick up a lot. If I could get 15-16 around town and 18 on the highway I would be thrilled. Even .5-1mpg would be good. Even if its exactlt the same I won't be too disappointed.

Couple more questions.... am I going to have a problem making the speedometer and odometer work with the T19 and the current dash? Also, someone here who's opinion I respect suggested that I use the shift system from an NP435 or T18(mechanical linkage) I kinda like that idea as the master and slave cylinder seems to be the thing that snarls more people on a T19 or ZF conversion than anything else. I know the driveability factor is probably less, but I'm plenty strong enough! Are the parts still readily available? Thanks,
JD

1980 - 82 used a mechanical linkage, which you could use in your truck. (My manual also appears to state that 83 and 84 smallblock trucks also use a mechanical linkage). This may take some adaptation / fabrication since your truck would have been set up for the hydraulic linkage. You will need to cut the hole in your floor pan for the linkage rod - it may already have a recess at the right spot. You will also likely need to drill the holes in the frame for the linkage pivot bracket.

The linkage type goes by year - not transmission.

The T18 and T19 are the same transmission, just the difference of wide and close ratio.

Okay...I sure thought it might be easier than the hydraulic. I'll have to think it through, see what I can get hold of easily.

LMC sells a pre bled Master cyl line and Slave assembled if your thinking of going to a hydraulic setup. Might be the way to go. Or you can assemble your own setup on the bench....Bleed it and then install it.

IMHO I would go hydraulic instead of mechanical linkages.

That also sounds like a good idea. Why would you be partial `to a hydraulic. Why would I want or not want mechanical? Thanks,
JD

So's you're not gonna shoot yourself when you get old and feeble.

This reminds me, I need to pick up a new M/C for mine. I hope that's the solution. I've been having the same problems FordGuy100 was having a couple weeks ago, and a master cylinder fixed his, so i hope it fixes mine.

Hope it fixes it for you, though it might be the Slave cylinder. Have you seen any fluid leaking out any place?
