Not me, my dad. He currently has a 95 with the zf5, but the clutch is giving his knees issues so he is looking to move to an automatic. He is currently looking at this one :http://nashville.craigslist.org/cto/5675863040.html.
I know nothing about the 4R100. Is it a decent tranny? I have been reading that the 01 had weaker rods but it doesn't sound like thats an issue if its kept stock. Any other issues to look out for with an 01?
Any insight into these new rigs would be appreciated.
Also, if anyone is looking, his 95 which he has owned for 18 years will be up for sale soon.
Thanks

While it's built off it, it's stronger than the e4od.
I wouldn't be afraid of one.

my 4R100 has been great, no issues.
besides the fact that i cooked the exhaust brake wiring.
which was tied to the trans.

towing with it has been simple.
dont be afraid of it.
not alot of options when moving to a auto trans behind a 7.3
you do want the 4R

Hell yeah, buy it, jump in it and go. Maybe the kid that's in the Mideast that's looking for one, might be interested in the 95, since it's a one owner. PM him. He's in the 6.9 7.3 forum.

Dads isn't one owner, he bought it in 99 with 80k on it. It now has 180. It seems from reading that this model was pretty solid. I read somewhere that these years only came with 3.73 gears in the diesel. Is that correct?

I hadn't heard that before.
Maybe he can send you the axle code on the door jamb sticker.

3.73's is correct, i believe they all camew with those gears unless you had a F350 DRW, then they were 4.10's

Interesting.
Also wander if zf vs 4r made a difference?
Edit: huh, yup. That's right. 3.73's only for 250. 350 had 3.73, 4.10, and 4.30. (Wandering if the 4.30 was a typo?)

The rods were switched from forged to powdered mid-year 2001. Most 01 trucks will have PMR's. With safe tuning, the PMR engines are safe and reliable to about 500HP. The 4R100 is pretty solid. Brian's Truck Shop in Arkansas can make one virtually bulletproof. All SRW 7.3 Super Duties had 3,73. I know 4.10 was an option on the duallies. I thought the 4.30 gear was only available on the gas 5.4 and 6.8 but I could be mistaken.

The 3.73's kept going into the 6.0 with the 5R110, at least in the 3/4 ton chassis. My Excursion has 3.73...... I'd say they are the more common ratio out there..... the 3.73 pulls fairly well, but the 6.0 does have bit more power from the get-go.......

3.73 were available in the F-350. I have them and I love them. Maybe should have gone to something like 3.55 but not as low as 3.08
