Looking at a 97. Its in mint condition. It is 4x4. Owner claims everything is original including paint. But, it does not have the 4x4 decal on either side. Is this normal? Did Ford make some 4x4 trucks without the 4x4 decal?

The only consistent 4x4 marking I can think of on any pre 99 trucks is the 4x4 badge on the bricks under the drivers side headlight. But that could be preempted by the EFI or DIESEL badge.....

Get the code off the door jamb to check if the 4x4 was original.

I think the obs trucks had it but it might have been apart of an exterior trim option, I’ve seen several obs trucks with the decal on it the bed.

My 97 has the 4x4 OffRoad decal on the bedsides. OffRoad package included skid plates under each fuel tank.
