I was planning on the same thing. Hadn't thought of switching the ground though. Not sure if I want to because I want to be able to turn them on by themselves. I think I'll run a two position switch for (on|off|auto)

Really? Aluminum polish? Never would have thought of that, thanks!
Just leave the switch on when you want it to be auto, shut it off when you just want brights

Chillman88, what's your reasoning for wanting to switch them separately? I'm thinking I want them on the dimmer switch, so I don't have to remember to turn them off separately when there is a car coing at me.

Simply because there are times I don't want to have the truck running or my headlights on when I'll want to be able to turn on the light bar. That's why i wanted to run a dual position switch. Same thing with my backup lamps, I want to be able to turn them on without turning the key on and putting the transmission in reverse.

I have long been using relays to get all of the high current stuff out of the cab. I control things with mini toggle switches.

These are standard relays, and the connectors are side linking. I have a half dozen mounted with just two screws.

You can install LEDs in H type housings, or get LED headlights.

These are a couple rectangular types.

The variety of seven inch round has exploded. Here is just one. I have several others.

I used bulbs very similar to what the OP used in my ‘88 e250 with Hella Lenses. As far as the light spread issue I did have to adjust mine some, but past that I didn’t have any issues and the output is far superior to the stock headlights.

Not sure if it helps any but, I recently installed a set of 5x7 LED headlights. I have been really happy with the results (upgrade from stck). No need for a relay kit as they draw less than the original lights and aren't going to get any brighter.
Below is the link of the ones I purchased.

I wanted to get the JW Speaker LED lights but, they are quite steep on price!!

I almost went this route but I already had the lenses, so I figured I would give it a shot.

I also replaced all my turn signals, brake lights and backup lights with LEDs. I live outside of town, so it can be pretty dark at night while backing up.

I used this style. The first LEDs I tried were definitely brighter than stock, but not nearly ad bright as these.
