with the threads talking of overheating issues I thought I’d post up what I’ve done to my truck to help keep it cool. The Louvers for the hood came from eBay and I removed the underhood insulation. The oil cooler runs off a separate 1/8npt hole in the block from the one that feeds my turbo. From there it goes into my oil cooler, out the opposite side, through my frantz bypass filter and back into the engine via the passenger valve cover.

In doing this my coolant temps stay incredibly low where before towing heavy the oil temps would spike the coolant. I have a temp gauge for both oil and water and the oil stays about 25 degrees cooler consistently and the water temp now barely goes above 210 when climbing fully loaded where before I’d hit 240 pretty quickly. Let me know if you guys have any questions! The cooler is 15x30 nascar takeoff I purchased from eBay, had -12 fittings I simply tapped internally for 3/8 npt fitting to run my -6 oil lines.

Just an update with the heat wave today towing my fifth wheel I noticed a steady 20 degree difference in oil temp

No none yet. I tried to position them so they are right above the area in between the exhaust manifolds and inner fenders so most of it would drip down in between. When it’s running the fan at idle moves so much air no water would go down them let alone at higher engine speed. But I do plan to keep an eye on any electrical connections under there.

Those are some surprisingly good results from a bypass setup.I really didn't think it was going to cool fast enough to show any measurable difference.

You may be on to something. Right now the bypass isn’t hooked up as I need to grab one adapter fitting. I was kind of thinking the same thing that maybe I should leave the bypass out of this loop and make a separate return for it. I was a little worried that maybe the slow flow through it would not allow enough flow to make a difference
