Yeah, that's a big part in the role. A lot are off drilled and out of balance, which will cause a ruckus.

i always hear of noise with an SMF. how does this noise sound like? is it very loud and annoying? I guess I will find out for myself soon enough.

The timing, condition of the injector pump/injectors, and the idle speed all contribute to the rollover noise. At low idle mine sounded like a super loud vibration, but after I raised the idle speed it was totally bearable, literally just a little rattle when you are lugging the engine at lower rpm's. Diesel trucks are pretty noisy in general, don't fear the noise of the SMF: think of it as your transmission telling you "I'm in my happy place, thanks for taking good care of me "
