If you have the 2g with the big rectangular plug, do a 3g alt swap. The 2g is prone to fire.. 3g is higher output.

Did the diesels ever come with the 2G? I didn't think they did.

Ya its I think the 2g alt w the field (orange wire) plugged into it.
I hate just throwing parts at it but I installed a Napa brand regulator a few minutes ago and its still there. Everything was clean an tight when I took apart. Should I go ahead and a new alt on? What entails on the 3g swap?

If you just bolted a new regulator onto the pass side inner fender, it's not a 2G.
