you had two break the shaft inside? wow, thats impressive, we should give you a trophy or something.

I've got a few ideas on how this could happen, but all of us here REALLY need a heck of a lot more information.

Answer these please:
1. How was the engine running before the IP broke? (each one please, looking for anything in common).
2. You are running #2 diesel, correct?
3. Injectors are how old?
4. Have you ever removed the timing gear?
5. Are you installing the pump, or someone else?
6. Is a professional timing the engine after IP install?
7. Just tell us every damn thing about your truck.... anything non-stock

thanks!

you turned your ip to adjust the timing with the engine running didn't you?
you can't do that.you need to tighten the bolts, start the engine.test the timing, then with the engine off, loosen the ip and turn it.repeat as needed.

its was running good right before the first one blow up. just got back from about 500 mile trip. yes im running #2 diesel. the injectors are about 6 mouths old. only removed the timing gear when i change the pumps but thats it. yes i installing the pumps. there is no one around here that knows hows to time this engine. it has 4in straight pipe. has an ats turbo only 15lbs of boost. 4.10 gears with 37's

Ok, when removing the pump(s), are you taking the timing gear and housing off of the engine at the same time? That could be some of the problem, if the timing gear is not replaced correctly, but it should make the engine run poorly (if at all), not break stuff. There are 3 bolts that hold the pump shaft to the timing gear. They should be tightened to about 15- 20 lbs/ft of torque. There are 3 nuts that hold the IP to the housing, are they tight?

I am thinking the breakage may be from misalignment, but am not sure where. IP housing? Loose or tight IP shaft bolts? Are you doing any adjustments to the IP for turbo performance?

High mileage will affect performance and oil consumption, but should not break IP shafts. 500k miles is a lot, even for one of these engines, but not unheard of.
