I just turned up my fuel one flat this week and now my injector pump is leaking. When I idle up the truck and let it down fuel runs out of where the throttle shaft goes through the injector pump. This is a reman engine that I had in my fsuperduty its about 10 years old and around 40,000 miles. Is there an easy way to fix this?

Are you sure it isnt the gasket leaking on the plate you removed? That plate has to be tightened ever so gently or the gasket will get damged, ask me how I know this?

Wow.. Thats a tuff question for me to comment on. I realy don't know of a seal on that shaft but there has to be one. Removing this shaft came up here a few weeks ago... Its a big job with plenty of adjustments that are required to make. Sounds like its time for a replacement pump. sorry to say that too. Average pump life is 125,000 miles. some more and some less. Same with injectors..

It's either coming from the gasket under the access plate you remove to adjust the fuel or the weep hole in the bottom of the pump. If it is the weep hole, it's time for a rebuild.

I have a junk injector pump at home i took apart just to see how it works and there is an O ring on the shaft but I am not about to take the pump on my truck apart. Way to much to go wrong.

I will look into the cover but I took that off again and put it back on and it was the same.

i had to swap out my pump shaft for the uhaul pump i got, it was some weird setup. there most definititly are o-rings on that shaft on either side and yes you have to pull apart some of the internal linkage to get it out. it was not a real hard job but you need to pay attention and i also brought home a etcher to mark or scribe how all the parts fit so i could line it back up. oldbull helped get some pics and talk me through it.

I just talked to a local injector repair shop and they told me the would put steel bushings in it and recalibrate the pump. Would cost around $550 if I took the pump off myself and brought it to them. I am starting to run a WMO mix so as long as its not going to hurt anything I think I will just drive it for now until I can get it fixed.

Good grief. For only $100 more you can have yourself a Baby Moose. What they are charging you is probably for a full rebuild. Nobody puts a used pump on their calibration machine. Too much opportunity for something to go wrong and screw up an $90,000 machine.

baby moose would be nice buy running WMO would not be good for that pump I thought. There is another shop that quoted me 175 and it sounded like they know the old IDI engines.

why not do it yourself, its not that bad and if the screw is marked it will go right back to the same setting unless it really is that sensetive.......i got mine done in about half an hour taking my time with it in the truck.

Yes is the short answer to pumps that fit the idi engines. Even if you installed a 7.3 turbo calibrated pump on a non turbo 6.9 engine I don't think you could feel the differance. Even the engine wont know there is a differance...

Ok later today i am going to swap out my leaking pump with the turbo pump I have. I have never swapped pumps before what do I have to do to get the timing set right to start it and drive it to a shop to get it properly set?

about the best you can do without a meter is line the timing marks back up on the pump to the housing. it will most likely not be dialed in but will get you close to run to the shop. you can play with the timing by ear but even seasoned guys can only get to within a deg or two doing this. thats the only drawback on these simple engines, it takes some special equipment to time them properly.

btw, do not remove the housing to get the pump off! take the front cover off and remove the three bolts and slide the pump out the back of the cover. this keeps the timing gear in alignment, if you pull the gear cover that is held by two bolts apart you will be pulling the front of your engine off to get it all lined back up.

maybe a stupid question but I line it up with the marks on the pump ad housing that are at 12 o'clock position? My truck has some marks on the drivers side as well.
