Pardon my ignorance but what exactly is this for? Adjusting the ip for timing?

it hooks onto the body of the pump and allows you to turn it for timing yes and not mar the crap out of it or risk breaking fuel lines by using a pair of water pump pliers

I just got a hydro boost from an 88 which is different than my 03 SD one. I was thinking that perhaps you could fab a mount bracket for an 03 SD to work in the older style trucks. I can take some pics to show differences...this way we would not be limited to older hydro assemblies we could go with the newer ones.
