A 6 jaw chuck.... Now thats something I have never seen. I like a 3 jaw chuck but they really have limits.. Like they can't really clamp down like a 4 jaw chuck can. A 4 jaw requires more work to align something in the jaws where a 3 jaw just tightens up whats in them. I used to "ride" the cutting tool post on the shops huge Craven lathe. It was used in WWII for making cannon barrels. The chuck was about 7 ft diameter. The verticle lathe had a chuck of 23 ft diameter. It was almost 40 ft tall. You could remove a 5/8 inch deep cut with that big boy. Talk about throwing flameing hot chips.... I don't recall the name of that lathe either. I remember setting up a 15 ft diameter pump shaft and impeller from the hydro project here at the other side of the cal aqduct pumping station. Stainless steel and heavy as hell. We had to remove no more than 15 thousands from the outer wear ring because some other shop almost ruined it before we got it to fix their #uckup. The cut never did go all the way around the circumfrance but we make it "LOOK" good.... I will probably end up with some Jet mills and lathes. They really are a close match to bridgeports but still an import.... So we drive imports too...

I find the local roll-off guy to be more than fair if I let him schedule the moves when he has time. He moved my lathe for $50, my mill for $65 and a huge shed (16x8) for $125.

He even used his bed to push the shed into the corner all nice and neat. No way I could have moved any of that stuff that easily or cheaply any other way. My friends would have been more expensive to feed and hydrate!

I think I would probably bite the bullet and just have the roll off do it for the 100 just so that I didnt have to move the winch.

Just for the record and not that I think its enough money. The company I work for hires a local heavy haul guy, 150.00 under 30 miles to haul a little 225 deere track hoe.

Now do ya really think he's making a dime since he rolls in with a 3 axle pete with a 3 axle drop deck?

Figure the weight and he should haul the lathe for pennys. LOL

I'm a penny pincher myself, couple that with hardly ever having anyone to help me and you'll understand why I think like I do.... Hit walmart and pickup two of their 1/2" thick HDPE cutting boards & cut them in half. Borrow a boat trailer, you know with the winch and cable, and get a sheet of 3/4" plywood (you can use the plywood later for something else) Bolt the lathe base to the plywood and use the HDPE for slides on the trailer, winch it on, tie it down..;Sweet:dunno
