I know this is not the cummins part of the forum... but no one is ever on the cummins forum it seems. Well im mostly looking for your guys opinion if the truck i want to buy has too many miles... its an 01 cummins high output with 281k on it. the guy says it runs good. New clutch and newer injection pump and lift pump. he wants 6500 for it. It has a little rust. What i want to know... is if this truck is going to be my daily driver... should i buy it? is it too many miles? Again.. sorry for posting this on the ford part of the forum. I guess its meant to be a general diesel question. Thanks in advance

I'd suggest replacing the stock lift pump with a much larger one like an airdog, fass or BD pump. The big downfall of the 24 valve is the IP starving for fuel when the lift pump goes. Looks like he already replaced them both once, I'd bet it was for that exact reason. I'd also suggest having a look at the front end, a steering stabilizer isnt an expensive part and is nice to have on those trucks, the front ends tend to get slightly loosy goosy with that many kms on it.

will you send the work to a shop or do youre self
also what kind of matience did he replace stuff for preventing it breaking or only when it breaks

I will do what i can by myself. I just need a daily driver. but i want it to be a diesel

Like stated earlier. The engine is the least of your worries. The rest of the truck started falling apart the day they made it though, there cant be much left to it

Its actually in pretty good condition. but i know what you mean. I have had a dodge... and they arent known for the bodies having longevity

put a low fuel pressure warning light on it, like most diesels they will run quite well with low fuel pressure, but the ip gets hot because of lower flow. The ip generally quits around 200k regardless of fuel pressure problems. also check the engine for blowby, the only two that Ive replaced had less than 300k on them, both had considerable blowby and oil consumption.
