I have been running the hydroboost brakes on my 79 chevy c-30 for about 25 years but these on my Ford are way better. I'm really not sure why. I had to bleed the brakes alone. The fronts worked fine but the rears wouldn't bleed down. So I tried to move the truck with only the fronts up and working.... Kinda scarry. So I tried pumping the brakes and bleeding the air out of the line to the rabs valve. It started to work so I pumped up the peddle, applied a LARGE concrete block on the peddle and got under and finished bleeding out all the air that was in there. I will take it to a shop or get some help to flush out the complete system to insure all the air ir gone. Heres the deal... The brake peddle is so far up when it engages the brakes its scarry. I'll bet the peddle does not move 1 inch and I'm feeling things stopping quickly. I feel this is due to the hydroboost, the 1 5/16th inch master cylinder pumping fluid into a system that was designed to operate on a much smaller master cylinder. Also I have the F450 brake peddle that has more leverage because the pin is closer to the pivot point by about 1 inch. I know this really is way better than the vacuum assist brakes I had. No, I did not adjust any brakes either front or rears to get the slop out of the system so it not like I brought the rears up so close to the drums that there dragging. The foot pressure is really a lot less than the vacuum assist brakes too. Overall I would reccommend this changeout to anyone thats interested.....;Sweet

you beat me. I was just getting ready to post the same.

Tonight I took the first test drive since the installation of the hydro-boost and 1-5/16" bore master cylinder. Definitely a different feel than the vacuum booster. The most notable difference and most important (to me) is the power assist is the same after repeated applications.

who knew if you stomp on the brakes on dry pavement, the truck can actually skid ;p

Hi in the Cascades, Nearly- Redmond,Oregon
couple hydroboost questions

The 1 1/4" & 1 5/16" MC, how do I tell what I got?
What is usually stock on '90 F350 dually CC 2WD?

And last question, my PSteer pump & reservoir, do it need to be changed, or will it work if the hoses are "T-eed" correctly. The pressure & return hoses?

Or does the reservoir & pump for steering & hydro have more output volume & capacity?
Seems somewhere once I saw something about they used original pump & reservoir, but "T-eed" the pressure & return lines. They would have to be teed at hyd, hose shop, 'ya wouldn't want to hacksaw & clamps in the backyard....

Anyway, I'm getting geared up to change mine. I found one off a 1ton Chevy I want to ck out....may not fit.

I used non-hydro PS pumps in my f450's and have never noticed the difference.
take a look in the "parts bin" for the hydro reservoir kit part number. It's roughly $35 and is worth the $$$$.

I'm going to have to explore this mod on the Moose Truck. After almost 25 years the master cylinder is starting to go on it, and I'd like to upgrade while I'm at it.

mel-
the results of the conversion will certainly be noticed on your CC dually but might be overkill on the bronc.

Moose Truck. Not Moosestang. Easy to get them confused I guess. It's probably overkill on the Moose Truck too, but then so is everything else. LOL

LMAO well I'll be doin it to my Bronco once I have all the components together including the swap to a Saginaw PS pump.

I already have a remote reservoir housing for the pump and the tank that goes with it. I just need to get the correct pump and pulley to convert to a more powerful PS pump. I'll be adding remote cooler and filter as well for increased capacity.

you got oversized tires on the moose truck so the hydro will be noticable.
riotwarrior-
look for the bracket setup for the PS on a van chassis. They used saginaw pump and many of those chassis.
