OK...so what originally brought me here was the search for a DP for my first ever, new to me 94 Turbo IDI. I was directed here from another site. After a lot of lurking around, and asking some questions about other members set ups I decided to tackel this job myself, and here is how it played out:

I bought a 4", aluminized OBS Powerstroke full turbo back, "off road" (no CAT) exhaust, with a muffler off of Ebay from seller the_power_shop. It set me back a little under $300 with the shipping. The exhaust will work for all cab/bed configurations, and bolt up from the DP back went off with out a hitch.

The following is how I modded the DP that came with it to work with my Factory Turbo. Here are the two DPs next to each other. Note the bend at the top of the OBS unit:

I then cut the ends off of both DPs. On your factory one, you want to cut about 1/2" BEHIND the factory weld:

I then ground the little "flanges" off of the factory piece. I used a heavy hammer to tap around the OBS unit untill I had a slight taper built into the very end of it. Hard to see but that is what the last pic. is of:

Once I had it all bolted in, I discovered on my truck the alignment to the CAT Delete pipe was not favorable. I decided to fix it by adjusting the angle at the end rather than at the top. I had the best clearance to the fire wall that I thought I could get, so this seemed like the best option for me. The OBS unit is 2-piece so it goes in/out VERY easily, and I was able to leave the top piece bolted to the trubo...

That's it. The rest is the same for either an IDI or a PSD, very straight forward. A sawzall, a welder and half a day and you're all set! I sugest having a friend around when it's time to bolt the new DP to the turbo, as it is VERY hard to hold it up in there and get the V Band clamp around it and tightened. Hope this helps some one, enjoy!

This is a topic that comes up once in a while because getting IDI downpipes can be difficult. I think a lot of guys suspected this was a possible solution, but so far you are the first one to document it.

Thanks for sharing;Sweet

Very useful thanks for sharing! ;Sweet

Although it is a completely different setup I have been contemplating something similar with my 088 ATS turbo...

WOW Awesome job man! I think people have talked about doing this before but no one has ever actually done it and taken pictures of it the way you have. Thanks!

oh okay. i was confused because you said 4" turbo back which they sell. they actually sell kits all the way up to 6" right off the turbo.

but yea that looks good. thats about what i did to my truck but with 3" flex cause no one would bend me a solid pipe.
