How to adjust fan stat thread?

Okay,
A while back I came across a thread that told you how to adjust the spring/thermostat on your fan clutch to get it to kick in at a lower temp....it had pics and everything.

Now after a search and looking through pages and pages of results I can't find it. Does anyone have a link to it, or even the phrase I should use in the search field to find it? Thanks

Before you take the bimetal spring out, spray it with Brake Kleen so it's good and clean, then paint it, that will tell you which side should face out. It's possible to put it back in upside down, won't work at all then. Gotta be careful when rebending the hook, the spring can break off pretty easy, then you need a new clutch.

Glad you found it. I learned something too reading this. I had no idea the spring needs to be installed the same side up. but now I do. Might try a map gas torch to add a little heat to the spring end so it bends easier. Just don't tun the metal blue. Thats too much heat. About 250 to 300 degrees is all you want here. Never heat a bearing up more than 250 degrees either.

Thanks. Heating it would assist in bending it without breaking it. Someone was having issues with their coolant temps when pulling hills in hot weather. They were seeing 230*+. Their cooling system had been redone, but I believe their fan clutch was not replaced. They never heard it come on, so either its bad, or the thermostat the clutch is set wrong (or just dirty).

I have a new fan clutch for mine, but I want to see if the old one is good first. Problem is that I have a hard time getting mine to run hot enough to kick it in....
