How can you tell the difference between a billet steel torque converter and a stamped steel torque converter when it is installed in the transmission and the transmission is installed in the vehicle looking at it with the inspection cover off.

If i remember from machining class. a billet piece of metal is a piece of metal that has been machinedd. ie lathe, mill.

So i guess if it looks like it has been machined then then it would be billet.

The top covers look completely different. The stamped will be rounded while the edge of the billet will have a sharper square corner.

Billet is turned on a lathe. It'll be purdier and will appear to be much better quality.

I'm thinking the billet converter is aircraft aluminum?
