I put a BTS in my PSD. From what I can tell it has a tipple disk converter, Transgo tugger shift kit, Red clutches, better input and output shafts, 4R100 tailshaft housing, and Brians valvebody. $4600 shipped to your door. I think Gary(Icanfixall) has one behind an IDI

Ya that was a tuff pill to swallow, but after I weighed ALL of the options, and NO ONE else would guarantee it. It was worth the money for piece of mind. It's built to handle 600 hp. and I can do anything with the truck I want, race, sled pull, off road, etc. and Brian will replace it IF it fails.

Is E4OD the one with the 2 piece input shaft?
I ready an article in some hotrod mag, a few years back, about some guy that was modding a Ferd O/D, for use in drag cars & such. It claimed to ge good to 1000hp. IIRC it had some fancy plumbing mods on the valve body, a 1 piece input shaft, and some other stuff. Their test mule was in a pro street big block Camaro(yes, a Ferd tranny in a bowtie chassis).
One thing I'm sure of. It was a pre-electronic controlled overdrive tranny. They claimed it would become the Turbo 400 for the next generation.

PackRat, that had to have been the AOD, as an E4OD is electronically controlled.

As far as building an E4OD, get all the upgraded planetaries, a quality low-stall converter, rebuild kit, and valvebody. Hard parts will run you around 1600-2000, and if you can do the work yourself, you're set. Otherwise, expect about that same amount in labor on top of that.

Trust me, the $4,600 for a BTS is worth it, especially when you consider the warranty that's behind it. The truck feels like a completely different vehicle with a well built tranny in it, biggest reason being the lower stall converter.

I do have a BTS E4OD and really like it. The torque converter is a triple disc setup with 150 square inches of friction material. A stock torque converter has only 25 square inches of friction material and they last a long time.... Our idi motors can't harm the BTS trans.. Brian told me the warranty is really "any horsepower... Any torque.... No questions asked".... Thats all I needed. If you have never removed or installed one of these E4ODs your in for a job. The truck needs to be at least 28 inches off the ground for the trans and installer to be able to roll under the trucks frame... Any floor jack will only lift the truck 17 inches... So you need to "plan ahead"... Plus the trans jack can only reach around 27 inches lift... Its a tight fit no matter how you do it... Best bet it to pay a trans shop to do it because these are heavy at around 300 lbs. I also installed a Mag Hitech pan that gives me 2 more gallons of atf fluid. BTS recommends using a 99 and up factory trans cooler al I recall.... Buy a BTS E4OD... It will be your last trans behind an idi motor. Suncoast trans down in Florida is a very close second to the BTS trans... About the same warranty too... My other E4OD was a Jaspers trans and it lasted for over 180,000 miles and was running when I changed it out. I wanted the best under my truck. Since the installation I added a Gear Vendors od. So now I have 8 forward gears and when in double od my final gear ratio is 1.96.....:sly Thats 1600 rpm at 75 mph.. When towing heavy I can get a 4.26 gear ratio in second over... That gear pulls any grade in California easy....;Sweet:D

i can leave my truck on its tires(safer) when i pull my trans out. would take me about three hours to pull or install my trans and all the parts. i didn't want to get that good at it but i guess it ain't hurting me now.

but do not try this alone. you will need help when you pull the trans off the dowel pins. they dont like to sit on a trans jack. i found that on my deep pan E4OD a regular floor jack works better for balancing on the sump of the trans. but on the shallow pan a trans jack works better. using a floor jack saved a lot of time in my truck. plus it was always fun getting the thing on the jack under the truck.

My dad, his fiance, and I took 2 days of evenings, a floor jack, hand tools, and a few 6x6 blocks to replace the E4OD in his truck(original seized in direct, after 335,428 miles). It was cumbersome as hell, and not one of us felt safe a few times while putting the new one in, but we got it done, and walked away with all our digits intact.
What rear end and gear ratio are you running in that truck?
