I'm thinking the truck is making 1 psi at idle no load right now with the vanes closed and I also don't believe the wastegate only option will work because if the drive pressure gets to heavy on a low boost situation the vanes won't open and the engine will choke out

I originally had the turbo mounted remote directly after the ex cab on the frame rail but turbo wouldn't spool worth anything not any romantic and vaneverything position so I decided to do this the white way and really rput the exhaust up.into the engine Bay to have the turbo.close to the heat and also so I would have no massive pressure drop.like the 6 foot of straight pipe probably added with the remote setup with the turbo in the location its seemed to pay off big time

got back to working on this truck this weekend! i got the truck hot and man what a night and day difference it is once the truck is warmed up it sounds like a hair dryer at any rpm!... i *** rigged a spring to fight the trucks drive pressure opening and it opens and closes with back pressure works good for temperary means but i need to rebuild this turbo it developed a good amount of shaft play and oil leaking into the housings

That's a great location for the turbo. How did you run the piping or have you? The charge pipes would be real easy from there. Not as sure about the hot side. Look forward to seeing more. ;Sweet

Hot side is complete piped it was a tight fit I'm not entirely happy with it but it was the best I could do using the na y pipe you can find that portion of the build in the video I posted early on in the thread I'm Considering not running an intercooler i have not decided yet and if i do run and intercooler it will small direct flow one like those used on the turbo ricer builds

get an intercooler. Your egts will thank you.
But witht eh amount of volume that hting pushes, might be ok, pump wont be able to supply enough fuel to feed that thing!

I've got a moose pump I got from a friend of mine and what I want to say are g code injectors it will spool fine it's accually spools the turbo no problems now at stock fuel position and stock pump that's why I went with vgt when the vanes are closed a weeswacker could spool it having them slowly open via back pressure it will be smooth I'm hoping

The only thing I can think of will be the VGT clogging up because of a lack of range movement (fully open to fully closed). I'm betting it wont see near fully open often, which will soot it up, and might cause it not to be able to move into that position.

I like the idea though! I would be curious as to if it has surge problems, but as long as you keep the rpm's at a decent level it should be alright. I've heard cummins guys have surge problems with this turbo in overdrive TQ locked, <2000 rpm's. But we have more displacement and a higher CFM requirement.

I would install a back pressure gauge though, just to monitor it and fine tune your VGT control.

I like your actuator setup. Can you explain it in detail on what you did and what signals you are using? Did you make it or get it somewhere?
