Hauled some hay this weekend

Well this is the first time I have pulled a trailer with my truck since I got it. It did great. Pulls a whole lot better than my Dodge gasser. It wasn't a big load, but I was well satisfied with the power. Gonna have to get a set of injectors soon though. I know I have one bad one because when I pulled the glowplugs the other day one was soaked in diesel and all the rest were dry. Attached picture of the cornbinder pulling a 20' triple axle tralier and about 85 squares. Last load of the day. Also picked up my paint for the binder this weekend. Got it at my local NAPA. They are getting rid of thier acrylic enamel line so I got a great deal on a gallon of blue metallic and the hardner to go with it.

I like that trailer, is it specifically for haulin hay? How many can you get on there?
I know with a regular 16ft we can get 120 bales.

There are round ones all over around these parts. Almost no one bails square ones anymore.

I dont think I've ever seen a round bail until I went down to Texas this summer. I was looking at the fields all WTH is that. Kinda figured it was a more european thing .

Its all square up here, I've done both small (3 string 125 pound) and large (6 string, 1200 pound) bails. Small bailers were 1990's vintage, and the big bailers are brand new.

thats all we do down here is round bales.. i only know about 1 guy that does square bales and thats just a lil alfalfa for his horses.

I'm kicking myself for not taking pictures, but I did haul about twice as much as whats shown in the picture a few times with my truck. Last one was a 20x7' flat bed covered in small bails and the truck box also heaped over the roof.

Guessing it wasn't a lot of weight, but it did look cool. Truck didn't work at all because it was all 50 MPH or less. Any faster and the bails might not stay put

your small bales are 125lb? i'll pass! ours are two string and are easy under 100lbs. i've hauled quite a bit of straw before. two 150 bale wagons(and no its no technically legal) about 55 mph(very good wagons) wasn't really working though.

the real test will be when i have to haul a John Deere 310 backhoe to a job sat morning. on a 20,000 lb rated trailer too...

Well square bales are still common, its mostly for the farmers who like to store it in a hay barn, stacking it in the barn is the worst part

I see they've been switching over to the Acme brand here but they say it's just the same stuff, different label.

I got a bad case of bronchitis doing that. That led to Athsma. I've sworn of hay ever since, and stay the hell away from it. I don't even go on hay rides.

The farm I was working for is 14,000 acres, half grass seed, half wheat. I bailed roughly 3000 acres of straw. They had stackers (New Holland something rathers), they would pick them up and make a square stack of I think 56 bails. Then the semi's would drive out to the field, and they had squeezes is what they called them, big fork lifts basically, but 6 on each truck and hauled it to the hay press (compacted the bails to go into containers bound for Japan and there Kobe beef).
