I recently got a new DB2 pump and fuel lines installed in my 6.9. Ever since the new DB2 was installed my starting when cold has been very tough and hard, lots of white unburnt diesel coming out the back. Almost have to give full fuel pedal to keep the up the engine so it does not die. The fuel line has been replaced to bypass the selector, and water separator. One line is ran from the tank to the lift pump, and connections are tight.

The glow plugs have been replaced 1 month ago. I want to say the harness has been checked and has power to all 8 plugs.

Any thoughts on this?

Try to start it with starting fluid, if it starts right up it probably your glow plug system.

I second what IDIBronco asked, where did you get your IP from? if its not from a good source it can cause all sorts of problems.
Second, did you time the truck? if you just stuck the IP on there it could be very out of time and give you fits trying to get it to run right.

I got the IP from custom diesel design, heard great things & had a shop that works on idi’s install, I wanting to think it’s a glow plug related problem, tiny shot of ether always starts up immediately!

You said hard starting when cold. When warmed up it should start instantly. If so maybe check your glow plugs. Warmed up could mask air intrusion. The return line system seems to leak if you disturb it. Get some viton Orings from Mc Master Carr. I usually can reuse the caps and lines after replacing Orings. There are olives to seal fuel low and high pressure lines. One from filter head to IP has an olive on each end. I replaced that line with one from Classic Deisel Designs. Return from pump to rear of engine (if you have original 6.9 hard line there) has an olive on each end. There is one on the line from lift pump to filter head.

That does sound like glow plugs to me. Unless it runs rough, or dies right away when it's cold.

If you still have the factory GP controller I would recommend converting to a manual push button GP setup. The manual setup is much more reliable than the factory controller, at least in my opinion.
