Ah, but it's not always that easy. That IS the normal way to remove them around here (although we don't like the noise, and usually drill the heads off), it's very frustrating when they will not drop down through all the way. The factory bolts have a square shank, and there is a round hole at the bottom. You know what that means.

Hey, Guys- I am sure the showerheads have dropped off the pickup tubes on both my tanks. I can only draw the tanks down to between 1/8 to 1/4. I have searched the forums but I can't find a write up on the hose mod for the tank pickup. Can somebody give me more details on this repair? What size hose is needed, etc? I appreciate any help and suggestions you may have! Todd

Local stealership wanted $52 a pop, I found them @ amazon for $21 each. If the repair does not last I will do the hose mod thing.

I know I need to perform the hose mod or replace the showerhead on both my tanks. But, with the hose mod, the fact that there won't be some sort of screen on the end of the pickup to catch any big debris kind of bothers me. But putting new POS showerheads back in the tanks knwoig they will eventually break off really bother me!. I came across this mod (http://www.guzzle7pt3.com/hutch.php) for Powerstrokes. I wonder if the part of this mod that is performed on the showerhead might be useful for idi's. This mod has a stainless tube inserted all the way through the showerhead. I would appreciate your thoughts regarding if this might reinforce the showerhead and maybe keep it from breaking off so easily. I am only talking about the "tube in the showerhead" part of this mod and not the rest of the mod just to be clear. Also, I have not yet dropped my tanks - can somebody tell me what size hose to use for the "hose mod"? I also assume viton hose would the way to go here. Thanks! Todd

What most of us do is clamp a short piece of 3/8" hose to the draw tube and cut a V in the end so it don't suck itself to the bottom of the tank.

What i did was take about a 8-10" piece of 3/8" hose and clamp it on, but instead of the V i took a piece of 3/8" brake line, drilled a ton of small holes in it then smashed one end flat. I did that to keep from sucking up pieces of the old shower head...

I get every drop of fuel out of the tank... :D

my showerhead was intact when i dropped my tanks to replace them from rusting out. i did shove some tubing into them to keep that little flap valve from leaking air into the system. i am not sure it made a huge differance but it did not hurt anything.

This problem really needs to be addressed on my truck > I just lost the front shower head too > only getting 100 miles per tank. -Lame

I like the drilled tube idea ;)
How long was that 3/8 brake line?
Could copper or brass tube be used???

Here's another argument for making your e-pumps pushers. Lengthen the tank supply hoses to the FSV, make them about another 6" or desired longer, move the FSV forward up the rail for easier access, then install a Racor as a puller, the FSV, then the e-pump all along the inside rail. Any debris which passes through will get caught in the Racor- provided it isn't square and size as ID of fuel lines. If a tank has already been dropped, shouldn't it have been cleaned before re-installing? Do the hose mod and forget the debris issues.... except the angry mowing neighbor.

Seems pretty sinchy and a sooooo upgraded fuel system.

The piece i used was probably 4" with about 1" in the hose to clamp on and the rest filled with about 1/8" holes.... (i didnt really measure :D)

I suppose brass or copper would work. I don't know of any compatibility issues...

Hey guys - I finally got around to dropping my rear tank to deal with the broken off showerhead. I am glad I did pull the tank as the old showerhead had disintegrated into a whole lot of little black plastic bits. definately not a good situation. The only thing that was even recognizable was the screen - that was still in one piece. Anyway, I have attached some pictures of my fuel pickup mod. Yeah, the hose mod is way easier and way cheaper, and is probably just as effective, but I just have to mess around sometimes and see what I can come up with. The funnel is stainless steel from a sausage stuffer, the screen is stainless, the rivits are aluminum, the hose is viton and the clamps are all stainless. I wanted to use fuel injection clamps rather than worm drive, but the FI clamps I had are zinc plated. Galvanizing plus diesel fuel = bad! Please feel free to offer comments or suggestions before I install this back in the tank and stuff it back under the truck. Looking throught the vent hole, the funnel just sits down nicely into the sump pocket of the tank. I appreciate all the helpful posts regarding dealing with this problem that nearly all of us have at some point. Todd
