However, and just for giggles maybe double-up on the hose clamps.
BTW...how much did you curse dropping that rear tank > details-man-details!

Doubling up on the hose clamps is a great idea! I will implement that. As far as dropping the tank - that was not any fun at all! I did transfer pump the fuel to the front tank first, so at least there wasn't five gallons of diesel sloshing around in there. I then lowered the tank enough to get above it to release the "quick-release" hose fittings. I had a hard time getting enough slack into the hoses to release the fittings. Finally managed to do it by undoing the clamps on the hard line on the frame. Not looking foward to putting the tank back in either! But, hopefully the front tank will go easier!

Nice job using the funnel! I had this problem a couple of years ago and made a replacement showerhead out of aluminum. Because I could.

Looks like you brazed/soldered the SS screen to the funnel...no???

Nice job on your aluminum pickup, Knuckledragger! That is too pretty to be somewhere that no-one will ever see it - but at least you will know it is there.
Hammerdown - the stainless screen is just riveted tight to the bottom flange of the funnel. The pop rivets expand enough through the screen that they hold it on very tight. I was going to use stainless rivets, but I started thinking that maybe stainless rivets might "wear" into the tank botttom after 20 years! Now the aluminum rivets will wear off in 20 years! I bought the sauasage stuffer funnels off E-bay for $14.95 each (No. 22 x 3/8" sausage stuffing funnel). The ss screen is from McMaster Carr item no. 85385T144 for $15.89 for a 12"x12" sheet. So, I probably have $30 into each pickup when all is said and done. The bad part with the stainless funnels is that they are frickin' hard! I found out right away that a regular hss drill bit won't cut 'em. I actually "ground" the rivet holes into the flange with my dremel tool and a sharp pointed stone. My torch is out of commission right now, otherwise I would have tried to aneal the holes locations first and soften up the stainless. A carbide drill bit might work too, but I didn't have one on hand. After I couldn't drill the stainless funnel, I began thinking maybe I should have just kept it simple and done the hose mod, but I had already spent the money on parts so I had to keep going! The tube on the funnel is 3/8" i.d., so the 3/8" i.d. viton hose is a tight fit over it, but it seems to be okay.
