A local business has a 87-90ish F350 4x4 sitting along their building. So I stopped in and asked if it was for sale or what. He said he's been thinking about unloading it. He said it runs good but it's a real pain to get started but once it's running it's fine.

I gave him my # and told him to call me first if he puts it up for sale.
BTW its a rust free Calif truck:sly
Whaddaya think? A bad glow plug? Leaking return cap? Rock hard Olive?

also could be:
weak batteries,
weak starter,
dead battery cables,
bad fuel hose (the little one between the lift pump and the hardline from the tank)
dead checkvalve in the filter head.
If it's an 87, bad water separator.

I did not start it but he said it cranks over fine. I'll assume that the batts are ok. I'm just waiting on him to call...

Good luck, even if you have to spend alot of time working on it, that could be a sweet rig.

Its an easy fix no matter whats right or wrong with it. We know the fuel supply drill very well here so how hard can it be. Worst issue that comes to mind is a roached injection pump. We sure know how to fix that with the removal of 6 nuts and bolts plus 8 5/8 inch hex hard lines..

He said they were going to use it this week. IMa gunna let em grind the starter down then make an offer. LOL Theres a rebuilder next door to me and I get a smokin deal from him on rebuilt starters and alternators. Ones he rebuilt himself....Good stuff too!

When a person tells us their diesel cranks over just fine I question how they know that. a battery system and new or newly rebuilt starter cranks over fast. Much faster than a person can cont the rpms. So try to see if they owner will crank it when your watching. Then you might tell them it needs a new and not rebuilt injection pump at around $1200.00 because the one on the engine is flooding the engine...:D:angel:
